There Is More to Come!
“I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth . . .!” Job 19:25 (NKJV)
The book of Job is an incredible tale of suffering, faith and redemption. Some contend that it is an allegorical tale, not intended to be understood as a historical recitation, like the History books (Judges, the Samuels, the Kings, the Chronicles, etc.). It is poetic in nature, so that may be the case. Just as the Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon are Wisdom books and contain a lot of allegory, they nonetheless are the Scripture by which the Early Church governed their lives, and should be considered as basic to our understanding of all New Testament teaching, as well.
This verse begins a sentence which ends with Job affirming the reality of the afterlife. Even if his current situation ends in the destruction of his flesh, he knows that the redemption of his just life will eventually come in death, where he will see God face-to-face. The yearning of his soul for that moment is reflected in Paul’s letter to the Romans (8:18-25), which he climaxes with, “. . . Even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.”
The temporal world we live in is temporary. There is a life to come, a life everlasting, where we will know, even as also we are known. Live for eternity, faithful and true to your calling for the here and now.
