What’s the Great Mystery?
“To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
(Colossians 1:27 NKJV https://www.bible.com/bible/114/col.1.27.nkjv)
Often, when Paul starts talking about, “the mystery,” my eyes tend to gloss over. I start thinking, “Okay, if it’s a mystery, where is the reveal?” Especially with Paul’s writings it is essential to break down what he is saying in parts to get an understanding of the whole.
In this case, Paul has a reveal for us. In this verse, he tells us the mystery is, “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” How is that a mystery?
Think about it. The Jews only had a hope of glory if they could manage to adhere to the Torah, as well as the non-canonical Talmud. Most non-Jewish (or Greek) seekers were lost in the pagan imaginings of their minds.
Jesus opened the door for us all! That’s the mystery, revealed now in the Colossians and others, including you and me. Hallelujah!
